Aldi 'banana chicken gate' has really escalated after customers zoom in on photo and work out 'truth' – shape was a clue | 3V98ZFG | 2024-05-12 17:08:01
ALDI has found itself at the center of a bananas discussion over a package of frozen food.
The drama unfolded after a customer posted to social media a picture of a bag of chicken they purchased at the discount grocery chain.

The Aldi customer posted a thread on Reddit claiming the chicken breast they just bought was already spoiled.
"I'm never buying raw chicken breast from Aldi again," the Redditor wrote.
"Any time I buy a large pack of chicken breast from any grocery store, I slit the pack and only defrost what I need. This time was no different."
After leaving the chicken in a large ziplock bag for two days, the Aldi shopper said it had a "brown black liquid coming out of it."
"I immediately disposed it," they said.
The Aldi shopper added, "This is the second time I bought the family pack and it will be my last.
"I still have the other half of the chicken breast in the freezer.
"In a few days I'll do the same thing to see if I get the same result but for now, I'm going back to Trader Joe's chicken breast."
The Redditor included a photo of what they claimed was chicken in a large ziplock bag surrounded by a brownish liquid.
Despite a few people believing the food item was actually chicken, the majority of Redditors didn't buy it.

"Definitely looks like frozen bananas that were defrosted. Even the shape is that of a banana. Maybe you grabbed the wrong bag from the freezer," one person commented.
"Invest in a sharpie for labeling because that's bananas," a second person said.
"You thawed bananas," a third person wrote.
"These are defrosted bananas. While look similar to chicken in color while frozen, defrost to look exactly like this. Zoom in the picture, they are clearly bananas," another person said.

"Looks like someone stole your chicken and replaced it with bananas," someone else wrote.
"There's a big white square on the bag to write a label so you never confuse bananas for chicken ever again," someone else commented.
The Aldi banana chicken gate posts have been trending on Reddit ever since.
In a separate thread on Thursday, a Redditor shared a photo of a bin of bananas – but jokingly called the bananas chicken.
"Dang. Someone put chickens in the potato bin again," the shopper wrote on Reddit.
Several people complained they were tired of hearing the jokes.
"Really can't wait for this trend to die down and we can go back to seeing relevant Aldi posts again," one person wrote.
"It's not funny anymore it's been worn out now," a second person said.
"I figure it will take a week, but we will still see bandwagon posts for 6 months or more because a person newly discovered it," another person commented.
Others said they loved the Aldi chicken jokes.
"It's hilarious keep going," said one Redditor.
"I'm loving the variety of chickennana posts. Keep them coming," another person commented.
"They will never live this down! HA! I hope they are laughing with us," a third person said.
