Retail bosses have implemented several new anti-theft measures such as locking items behind plexiglass.

Receipt checking is a policy where a member of staff will wait between the checkouts and the exit to ask customers for their proof of purchase.

Customers can then show their receipts as staff look through their carts.

Gregg Rusnak (@GGRusnak) criticized this policy, in response to another X video of a Walmart employee conducting the checks.

Rusnak claimed her actions were unlawful.

"Sorry Granny, What you are doing is Illegal," he said.

The shopper claimed Walmart employees did not have a legal right to stop people so shoppers should not be obliged.

"You see Once you pay for an Item at Walmart, NO Employee has the Right to Check your Receipt nor the Contents you are in Possession Of.. " he said.

"This is Not a Members Club, So they have ZERO Rights to do this.

CHECK POINT

Walmart's rules around enforcing receipt checks have differed from membership retailers like Costco and Sam's Club.

Legal experts have said Walmart shoppers have the right to refuse receipt checks as they have not contractually agreed to the measure.

They have also suggested shoppers still comply with the measure.

Lawyer and business professor Alex Colangelo said store staff do not have the legal power to stop shoppers who do not comply, The U.S. Sun has previously reported.

"Police officers have the power to arrest … but store security and loss-prevention officers are regular people," he said.

"They have much more limited powers of arrest under the criminal code."

Costco and Sam's Club customers are different as they agree to receipt checks when they sign the terms and conditions as they join.

CUSTOMER WOES

Receipt check complaints have grown among customers, The U.S. Sun has previously reported.

One shopper shared her anger at the supposed wait times created at a store she visited.

Abigial (@Abby_Sariah) also took to X to share why the policy angered her.

"It's no way to live!" she said.

The U.S. Sun has reached out to Walmart for comment.
