It's additional hours of candy vitamin D… In principle (Picture: Getty Photographs)

Wouldn't it's higher to have leap day within the peak of summer time as an alternative cold, darkish, February? If the answer is yes, you may need to signal Chris Snowdon'spetition to change the date to June 31st.

Though it'd end in an extra sunny day here within the northern hemisphere, the benefits of adjusting the date is something he'll in all probability need to convince the opposite aspect of world of.

While we wait, readers talk about the Royal Household's automotive preferences, speculating on a possible causes behind what they drive.

Chris Snowdon in West Sussex needs to cheer us all up by shifting leap day from February 29 to June 31, in order that we get an additional day of summer time (Metro, Wed).

He has launched a petition to modify it after discovering the date was an arbitrary selection as the day so as to add 24 hours to make sure calendars are stored in kilter.

This can be a sensible concept. Imagine these infinite June nights, card games and beers in the pub garden, the picket benches still glazed with gold and warm from the day's solar. Who would protest?

On the very least, it will be a leg-up for individuals with seasonal melancholy.Bella, London

Think about if it was gray and overcast anyway…

Yep, that's more sensible (Credit: Getty Pictures)

Chris's proposal reminded me of the Harry Enfield and Paul Whitehouse comedy sketch where they go on Dragons' Den to pitch for the month of 'Augcember' (please, look it up!).

Does the date make any difference to
the quantity of sunshine we recover from the whole yr? Daniel, London

Sensible concept, Chris. Now we're free of Brussels, why shouldn't we transfer February 29 to June 31? One of many events should make it an election pledge. Len, Harrow

Certainly Chris is misguided? Altering
the intercalary year day to the top of June makes no difference at all to our appreciation of the universe.

Having 179 signatures in his petition is all very nicely, but what concerning the different billions of people on the planet who would have to agree – and, in fact, June is midwinter in lots of elements of the world! Ian, Chatham

Chris's proposal would, in fact, do nothing to alter the pure climate cycles and so would not make real summer time any longer. August 31 would then be that bit closer to meteorological winter.Maybe a greater concept can be to add the additional day to December in order that we might have a longer festive period and rejoice New Yr's Eve on December 32!

However actually, with all that is occurring on the earth in the intervening time, it's troublesome to think about anything that's less in need of change. Trevor, Barnes

'"Utterly insensitive"? They're German descent!'

In yesterdays MetroTalk one reader thought that the Queen's selection of automotive was unpatriotic (Credits: AP)

Mick Gordon (MetroTalk, Thu) says it was 'utterly insensitive' of Queen Camilla to have visited and collected King Charles in hospital in a 'German-made Audi 4×four'. There's no pleasing some individuals. If she had turned up in a Rolls-Royce, they might say she is pretentious or making an attempt to emulate Queen Elizabeth.

I don't suppose Camilla has much say in what automotive is used, very similar to we wouldn't stipulate what make of Uber car we might get.

And I don't suppose the royals go to the automotive showroom to pick a automotive or to haggle an honest trade-in on their previous one. John Bramwell, Surbiton

The automotive that Queen Camilla was driving is just not a state automotive – the automobiles within the royal household's state fleet are British. Nevertheless, this is presumably a personal automotive that she was driving.

Certainly, the royal household are huge fans of Volkswagen automobiles.

Additionally, it's fairly well-known that the royal family don't solely drive British automobiles.

Princess Anne had a succession of fines when driving her Reliant Scimitar.

Furthermore, does anybody need to break it to Mick Gordon that the royal family are of German descent? Lu, London
